Caregivers

A caregiver is someone designated by a patient who can possess and purchase marijuana on the patient’s behalf. A caregiver has significant responsibility for managing the well-being of the patient who has been diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition and has the same legal protection as the patient.

They CANNOT use marijuana for any reason. A caregiver should be trustworthy and able to assist in times of need. To designate a caregiver, his information and a copy of his ID will need to be submitted with the patient’s state application.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must present an identification card
  • May not be the patient’s attending physician

Becoming a Caregiver

Essentially, any adult can be a caregiver as long as he is designated by a patient who notifies the Oregon Health Authority upon applying for a new medical marijuana card or changing growers.
